You don't have to be fancy to make it through lunch! I have found that the best way to succeed at this meal is by adding personal touches. First, for packed lunches, a fun lunchbox is essential. Then, put a sticker on the sandwich bag or tuck in a love note (don't use stickers if your child is still mouthing things as the glue may have forbidden additives).
• Hotdogs can have hidden fillers and restricted additives; Hebrew National is GFCF but Applegate and Coleman brands are GFCF and nitrate-free and antibiotic-free. • Lunch meat can also have restricted additives, you will need to verify with manufacturers. • Fritos, tortilla chips, potato chips, and non-buttered popcorn are GFCF. • Include fresh fruit and veggies, even if they aren't initially eaten. • Use Annie's, Heinz, or Muir Glen Ketchup; Hunt's is not GF. • Applesauce cups or fruit squeezes are generally GFCF. The calcium lactate that is usually added is the questionable ingredient. Verify with manufacturer that it's from a vegetable source (it may be from corn, so use caution). Whole Kids and Earth's Best are reliable GFCF brands. • Most juice boxes are GFCF. Whole Kids, RW Knudsen, and Santa Cruz Natural are all GFCF. • If you like the GFCF Soymage cheese, treat yourself to a grilled cheese sandwich, using our GFCF sandwich bread and GFCF butter. |
